Big City, Big Ideas: Hudson Yards, NYC

Wednesday evening at Innis Town Hall, a fascinating lecture on North America’s largest urban development was presented — Hudson Yards, on Manhattan’s West Side in New York City.

Jay Cross and Blake Hutcheson (Oxford Properties) were the speakers.

I was able to ask the first question during the Q&A session on any insights they had on Toronto’s Port Lands being developed.

The final question of the evening belonged to Jen Keesmaat, the City of Toronto’s new Chief Planner.

What sucks about recording inside Innis Town Hall is that it is a Theatre where films are shown, it is not the best location for making films. It’s too dark. Hence the poor quality of the videos.

Here’s my storify including video of the lecture presentation, Q&A afterwards, sprinkled with tweets and flickr pics…

Renee Gomes moderated a 15 minute discussion before opening up the pannel to questions from the floor. I did not record those 15 minutes.

Once the floor was open, I was able to ask the first question. I asked Blake Hutcheson what if anything, can the Hudson Yards project inform us about developing our Port Lands here on Toronto’s Waterfront.

Here are his and Jay Cross’ brief insights on the Port Lands…
