This morning, Toronto City Council observed a moment of silence in Tom Samson‘s (and others who have passed away) memory before the day’s business of The City began.

This afternoon the funeral service for Tom Samson was held at Wychwood Barns.

I did not attend.

At the funeral, hundreds were present, including his grade 2 students, numerous cyclists, and members of the general public who never met him.

Some of their reflections as well as news links are included in the storify below.

Tom Samson Memorial Ghost Bike Ride

The last Friday of every month is known as Critical Mass. Group Bike Rides happen in cities the world over. In Toronto, the Critical Mass starting point is the South East corner of Bloor and Spadina.

This Friday’s ride, November 30 2012, will also include a memorial to Cyclist Tom Samson.

A painted white Ghost Bike will be carried during the ride until they reach the Lansdowne and Davenport intersection. It will likely be installed at the sidewalk location of the makeshift memorial on the south west corner.
