Mayor Rob Ford proclaims Toronto Argonauts Day – Tuesday November 27 2012

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford proclaimed today, Tuesday November 27 2012, as Toronto Argonauts Day in The City of Toronto.

Toronto Argonauts Day

November 27, 2012

WHEREAS the Toronto Argonauts are the Canadian Football League’s 2012 Grey Cup champions, defeating the Calgary Stampeders in a hard fought and exciting game here in Toronto where the tradition of the Grey Cup began.

As hosts of the 100th Grey Cup game, Toronto welcomed football fans from across Canada to take part in the special celebrations leading up to the championship game and united us all to commemorate its history as an iconic Canadian tradition.

The Toronto Argonauts have brought the Grey Cup back to Toronto, in the trophy’s centennial year, having captured the championship for the 16th time and for the first time on home soil since 1952.

As the oldest existing professional sports team in North America still using its original name, the Toronto Argonauts’ 139 year history and deep-rooted love of Canadian football was displayed on the field with an incredible performance by the Boatmen.

We are extremely proud of our Toronto Argonauts players, coaches, personnel and owners whose hard work, determination and teamwork not only heightened Toronto’s city pride but made the 100th Grey Cup game victory a memorable one for all Double Blue fans across our country.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Rob Ford, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim November 27, 2012 as “Toronto Argonauts Day” in the City of Toronto and encourage sports fans from across our city to celebrate this Grey Cup championship and the remarkable success of a historic Argos season.

Mayor Rob Ford
